Understanding the many shapes of inflammation: from bench to bedside 2nd Edition

Rationale Inflammation is a central driver of a wide range of diseases, extending from acute protective responses to chronic, dysre gulated processes underlying aging, metabolic disorders, can cer, and cardiovascular diseases. Recent advances have hi ghlighted its complexity and systemic nature, involving multiple organs and biological pathways. The 2026 Summer School provides an updated and integrated view of inflammation, with a focus on emerging concepts such as inflammaging, metabolic inflammation, clonal hematopoie sis, and the interplay between inflammation, immunity, fibrosis and coagulation. The program follows a translational “bench-to-bedside” ap proach, linking molecular and cellular mechanisms to clinical practice. Participants will explore key pathways of inflammation and their relevance in major disease settings, alongside current diagnostic tools, including biomarkers and advanced imaging techniques. A strong emphasis is placed on interactive and practical lear ning, with laboratory sessions, imaging-based activities, and case-based discussions aimed at translating knowledge into clinical decision-making. The course also addresses novel therapeutic strategies, from conventional anti-inflammatory treatments to drug repurposing and emerging approaches such as biologics and gene therapy, reflecting the move toward precision medicine. Designed for advanced medical students, residents, and PhD students, the Summer School offers a unique opportunity to en gage with leading experts in the subject and gain a comprehen sive and clinically relevant understanding of inflammation.
